2008 - how did it go?

A fantastic day had by all I think. 3 Explorer Teams, 1 Network Team, and 7 pairs. We were expecting more teams (two Network teams ended up becoming pairs), but the foul weather forecast put paid to them (we think).

Luckily, the weather changed completely overnight. All the floods disappeared (into Lake Windermere), the sun came out and a perfect day was ready for us. All 11 teams left GT before 08:30, and completed the orienteering course through and down to Moor Crag. The Canoeing section worked well, although we used the Eastern Side of the ferry terminal to land the boats this year as the Ferry was all mucked up due to the high winds and weather the previous day. Next came the sea Kayak, with all teams thundering away up to the public landing then over to Red Nab. Including a rather tired looking pair who'd canadianed the whole way from Moor Crag! The Mountain Bike section was next, and was the make & break for a few teams. One Networker took a fall & had to get rescued (giving our Doctor someone to practise cleaning wounds on), then another networker took a fall after his bike tried to disintegrate on him. Many people congratulated the setter of the route for the Biking, providing some technical challenges, whilst also giving the opportunity to thunder down tracks at MACH 10. Miss Mason's Mental Mind Maze was the next bit, with a mental challenge for the teams, and then off onto the hill, for a route from Tilberthwaite round the back of Wetherlam and up over the top to Coniston John Ruskin School.

For more information on Adventure Racing, try Googling the phrase, or check some other excellent events such as the OMM ,and many, many others out there. Go see - go adventure! And most of all - come back safe next year!

A couple of files are available, firstly the full timesheet and the splits for all events. Well, it would be if they were working. I've stuck loads of pictures on my site here, and the timings are there as well at the end.
