The Rules

• Teams are limited to 1 per District Explorer Section / Local Network. 7 people in each team are required. At least 2 units should be represented in an Explorer Scout team. Application forms should be countersigned by District Explorer Scout Commissioner or ACC Network. It is the responsibility of the DESC / Chair of Network to ensure that the competitors have appropriate skills for the event.
• The competition will run on the 1st weekend in October. All teams will compete within a time window, although there will be a staggered start.
• Each team will have a coloured bib which needs to be passed from competitor to competitor at each changeover (NB see notes below on cut-off times)

The order of activities will be announced at the briefing, the night before the event. The route will be announced at this time too. The start point will be announced to the teams prior to the event - however the finish point will not be published before the briefing.

• Support Team. Each team will need a support team comprising of 2 vehicles. The support team is responsible for food and basic first aid treatment for the competitors. The event organisers will ensure adequate supplies of water are available at each changeover. See notes at the end of this document for duties of the support team.
• A minimum of 4 people must complete the final section of the route. The time stops when the final person in the team reaches the finish point. If 6 people compete, then the clock stops when the 6th person arrives in.
• All members must be older than 14 on date of the event. If a team has a member aged between 18-25 on the date of the event, then that team is a network team, except where the team has a member aged over 25, where the team becomes a leader team.
• All competitors must be registered & invested members of the Scout Association.
• Apart from Mountain Biking and the walk/run, teams will use the equipment supplied
• The bib must be kept with the competing people at all times.
• Sea Kayakers must have a BCU 1* minimum of kayak standard.
• One day activity forms need to be completed (will be sent out after applications are recieved)
• In order that large gaps don’t occur between the competing teams, a cutoff will operate. If a team member doesn’t arrive at the changeover point a set period of time after the previous competitor departs, then their member will be set off before their team-mate arrives. This will keep the cluster of competitors together. The clock will continue running until the team member arrives (i.e. all times will be true and correct throughout the event), as times can be added up and radioed through as the competitors transfer to the next point.
• In 2006 a ‘pair’ will trial the event with a view to making this available for over 18’s in future years. These will compete under the "Over 18's Rule", allowing 2 people to complete the whole activity.

Awards

• Best Explorer / Network / leader / pair teams – first /second / third etc.
• Award for fastest sector time per section

Support Teams

• Each team will have 2 support vehicles, except for the doubles race. A single vehicle can provide for the doubles race.
• The collection and drop off points will be published at the briefing for the competition, and not before.
• Support teams responsible for transportation of bikes and competitors, provision of food.
